Tribute
A portrait of Martin the organ builder (with his partner Margaret), in his own words and those of Dominic and Edward
Research and Design
A description of Martin’s expertise and skill in developing our style and designing our projects.
Training
For a reserved man Martin was a surprisingly enthusiastic teacher, passing on his knowledge and expertise to the associations to which we belonged, to our journeymen, apprentices and the pupils who joined us for work experience from school (in the picture Jack Stone, now training as an organist).
Developing Techniques
Martin never learnt or acquired any new subject or technique without considering how he might improve it, the picture shows him with Klaas Veltman developing the G&G method of making and voicing reeds.
Institute of British Organ Building
Martin’s period as Board member and President of the Institute of British Organ Building, the UK’s professional association for the organbuilding trade, was very important to him.
His own Work
Martin’s practical genius enabled us to fulfil our aims as organ builders. This section includes some of the material that he wrote about the organ at Santa Clara Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The picture shows him with the nuns.
